Vogue Italia is doing an all black spread to follow their controversial but amazing "All Black Issue". Franca Sozzani the editor-in-chief is trying to bring light to the lack of black models being used in the fashion industry. The photo spread titled, "The Black Allure" features Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn, Sessilee Lopez, Arlenis Sosa Pena, Jordan Smalls, Rose Cordero, Ajak Deng, Georgie Baddiel, Kinee Diouf, Lais Ribeiro, Melodie Monrose and Mia Aminata Niaria who posed for the February 2011 spread. I love the fact that Vogue Italia is doing this but is it really making a difference? There are still a lack of black and ethnic models period on the cover of magazines and on the runways. I don't think this is something that should be done once a year or once every other year, I think they should start using black models throughout ever issue period. Doing it once in while to get people talking is good but doing it more often will get people to see the diversity in fashion and how it is changing to appeal to everyone. Don't get me wrong, I love what Franca Sozzani is doing but why isn't it being done here in America? Makes you wonder. I love, love, love the spread and I hope this is something that continues in more than one issue a year. Continue to see more images and comment about it.
