Joan Smalls quickly became one of the most sought after models and now she is the first black model to cover VOGUE ITALIA since 2008 when "The Black Issue" was released. Shot by Steven Miesel, the supermodel is featured on the March 2012 issue looking stunning in colorful eye make-up, funky nail art and statement earrings. The issue is respectfully titled "Over The Top" and fashionista's it is just that. However is this going to change things for black models? Being that it has been four years and Vogue.it has been trying to put emphasis on the lack of black models on covers, why did it take them this long to do it again? Do you think magazines like Vogue America or the worst of them all Vanity Fair will open their minds and put a black model or more women of color period on their covers? I highly doubt Vanity Fair will but hopefully one day all magazines will step up to the plate and change the game. I do like Vogue.it and the voice that they are creating for women of color so thank you Franca Sozzani who is the editor-in-chief.
