On her film 'Loving' being different from anything that she has already done:
There’s often a job that’s a ‘before and after’ for an actor. This is that kind of job for me.

On leaving Ethiopia, how she found out her father died & her mother:
We were going to go to America but my dad didn’t get out in time. We found out in a letter and a phone call. This was 1988. There wasn’t any grief counseling for kids. She’s(her mother) a survivor. Very like Mildred. My mum never experienced that—I mean, never.

On having freedom when she was young:
We weren’t allowed in the house from about 9:00 till about 7:00. I was an attention seeker, always in trouble. Sometimes Dom says to me, ‘Why do you look like you’ve just stolen a bun?’

On visiting Ethiopia:
I find it difficult because it was an abrupt sort of ending to a lot of my life. I’m always very careful to say I’m Irish-Ethiopian because I feel Ethiopian and I look Ethiopian and I am Ethiopian. But there are 81 languages in Ethiopia, and I don’t know any of them.

  1. Gorgeous. That Christopher Kane dress needs to find it's way to my closet.
