Lily James on the August 2018 Cover of Vanity Fair Italia Magazine

Lily James just wrapped up the promo tour for Mamma Mia! 2 but you can catch her on the August 2018 cover of Vanity Fair Italia magazine. On the cover which was shot by David Slijper, Lily is wearing ERMANNO SCERVINO PRE-FALL 2018. In the issue, she talks her career, what she learned from Cinderella and more. Continue below to read excerpts from her interview. For more on Lily's feature, visit VanityFair.it and pick up a copy on newsstand on July 25th.

On returning to Mamma Mia!:
It was one of the funniest experiences of my life. We shot in Croatia, every morning, at dawn, I reached the location by boat and, always by boat, I came home at sunset. My mother, one day, came to see me on the set, she could not believe that Cher was really there. And, to celebrate the end of filming, Pierce and his wife organized a fantastic dinner in which we all participated

On her career:
There were some hitches, actually. For example, I shot a film that never came out: The Exception. Perhaps, today, you can find it in streaming somewhere, but I kept it and I was sorry. And then, looking back, you realize how many things could have been different. My very first audition was for a series of BBC, Runaway , for the part of a tough girl from the East End of London (a multi-ethnic area, where people speak with a strong accent cockney, ed), and I came quite close to be chosen. Instead, it's over that they've taken me for an irreproachable costume drama like Downton Abbey. Even today I wonder if, in reverse parts, my career would have taken another direction
