2016 Black Girls Rock Awards Wrap-up

On Friday(April 1st) the 2016 Black Girls Rock awards took place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ. To find out details about the organization, visit blackgirlsrockinc.com. To see all of the red carpet looks, click HERE and continue below for the wrap-up.

Teyonah Parris was a golden girl wearing a JANI KHOSLA long sleeve studded dress with a v-neckline and a back split. Her look was topped off with beautiful natural hairstyle by Kangue Styles, a red lip, DRUKKER earrings and shimmer STUART WETIZMAN 'Nudist' sandals.

Kelly Rowland wore served up some cleavage in a BRANDON MAXWELL white long sleeve ankle length crepe jumpsuit with an banded waist and a seam detail. I like the jumpsuit but this doesn't work for me. First, it's just too much cleavage which takes away from her look and the pants and the seamed detail on the pants looks weird but that maybe because of how she is standing. LOUBOUTIN nude pumps, silver jewelry and puffy ponytail completed her look.

Danai Gurira also wore a white jumpsuit. Her CUSHNIE ET PRE-FALL 2016 halter one-piece featured matching tie waist was styled with a blush pink clutch, gold sandals and a gold bracelet. Instead of adding a colored lip, Danai opted for a shiny lip which was offset with a smokey eye.

Rihanna in Miu Miu at the 2016 Black Girls Rock Awards

Rihanna marches to the beat of her own style regardless of the occasion. She was one of the honoree's on Friday(April 1st) at the 2016 Black Girls Rock awards at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Ditching a dressy look, Riri was head to toe in a MIU MIU FALL 2016 ensemble which featured a ankle length fur coat, a light blue button down shirt, white shorts and black pearl embellished ankle strap pumps. Beauty wise, she went with off-the-shoulder tresses which were adorned with embellished hair clips and a dark cat eye which was offset with a nude glossy lip.

Compared to the other attendees, this was a casual look which she dressed up with accessories. I am not sure that I would have liked this on anyone else but even though it is not on tune for the occasion, it works for her although I am not a fur person. Did Riri sell this look to you?

Tracee Ellis Ross in Leah Da Gloria at the 2016 Black Girls Rock Awards

I am usually on board for Tracee Ellis Ross looks because she has great style but I wasn't on this occasion. On hand as the host, Tracee Ellis Ross attended the 2016 Black Girls Rock awards at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on Friday(April 1st) in Newark, New Jersey.

She hit the red carpet in a LEAH DA GLORIA white fringe embroidered cap sleeve dress which I thought looked great on her. I love the instagram slow-motion video that she posted of her shaking in this dress.

However it's those GUCCI 'Angel' platform shoes that has me confused. I like the overall retro appeal of her look but why the heavy heels with this fringe dressl. Also I think a colored lip wouldn't have hurt. She finished up with EFFY earrings, an OKHTEIN clutch and her signature natural curls. What do you think of Tracee's look?

Amandla Stenberg in Moschino at the 2016 Black Girls Rock Awards

Amandla Stenberg style has definitely evolved into something different but it works for her. On Friday(April 1st) she attended the 2016 Black Girls Rock awards at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ.

For the occasion, she wore a MOSCHINO PRE-FALL 2016 ensemble which featured a orange velvet double breasted suit & a yellow button down shirt both with white pipping. Amandla also appears to be wearing the black platform shoes from the runway look as well.

The only other person that I can see making this work is Rihanna, probably with some heels. I can't say that I favor the fit of the jacket on her because I wish it was a bit more tailored. Also I am not a fan of the shoes as I myself would have done pumps. Love her natural curls and minimal make-up look. Does Amandla's masculine inspired look work for you?
