Designer to Watch: Duro Olowu

DURO OLOWU is a designer that I think everyone should and that's why he is my designer to watch now. The Nigerian born designer debut his first collection in London in 2004 with his mix of African prints and profound use of color combinations that garnished him a lot of attention. American Vogue’s Sally Singer and Barney’s Julie Gilhart discovered the designer when he created the “Duro”, a high waist patchwork boho dress in 2005, which became a very hot item.
Olowu developed a strong following that includes supermodel Linda Evangelista, Uma Thurman, Keira Knightley, Kristin Davis, Solange Knowles and the First Lady Michelle Obama. He merges vibrant prints and colors in an un-seemingly way but it always works well together. This is the designer's signature style and with print on print being a huge trend right now, he definitely had the right idea.

Duro Olowu Fall 2013
Right now, Duro is gearing up for the release of his exclusive collection for JC Penny which hits stores on March 1, 2013. This month during New York Fashion Week Fall 2013, I had the opportunity to attend the Duro & JC Penny launch event with The Daily which was held at The Stone Rose Lounge. Guest sipped on cocktails and light bites while previewing the collection.

I loved the pieces which is priced under $100 and happy that I was able to snag a few things at the launch. The designer stayed true to his signature style & feminine shapes which was done in bold patterns and colors of course.  If you love prints like me, than you might like this collection.
