Cate Blanchett in Gucci at the IWC 2016 Gala

Cate Blanchett made her way back to the red carpet this evening(October 4th) in London for the IWC 2016 Gala in Honour of the British Film Institute.

The actress worked her frame in a GUCCI SPRING 2017 gown which just hit the runway last week. Her eye-catching gown featured a ivory long sleeve ruffled v-neck top, a contrasting red satin bow belt and a black floor length skirt. Cate altered the dress from the runway version by shortening the v-neckline which worked in her favor. When I first saw this dress, I thought of Cate because I knew she could pull it off and she did.

She looked elegant and she owned the look. However even though it pains me to say this, I do have some issues with her look. She could have benefitted from a sleek up-do to compliment the detailed bodice and the black watch should have been left out but given that this is a IWC gala, I am sure that they wanted her to wear it for promotions. But again, Cate sold this gown. Weigh in, did Cate nail this look for you?

  1. Wow, wow, I'm floored. Loving the artistically structured bodice and how it's balanced by the simple elegance of the skirt, Cate looks incredible. This goes on my Best Dressed of the Year list.

  2. I don't like this at all. She looks like a mariachi. She can do much better. I expect more from her.
