2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards Wrap-up

The 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards took place this afternoon at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, CA. To see all of the looks, click HERE and continue below for the wrap-up.

Jennifer Jason Leigh continues to show her love for RODARTE. She wore a custom FALL 2016 white sequin dress with sheer long sleeve and black contrasting cuffs. Adding a touch of cool to her look, she wore dark sunglasses. A black tote & stacked heel sandals and layered tresses completed her look.

Rami Malek looked great in deed in a CALVIN KLEIN two-piece burgundy suit which he styled with a navy tie, a white shirt, JIMMY CHOO shoes and a FRED LEIGHTON Vintage watch.

Rachel McAdams wore a SOLACE LONDON ensemble which featured a vibrant orange cut-out back top and a white skirt which was adorned with a light pink belt. I like Rachel's look with the exception of her CHARLOTTE OLYMPIA white satin platform pumps. I just think a ankle strap sandal

Zoe Kazan wore a MIU MIU ivory dress with long sheer puffy sleeves and a lace panel high neck top. Her look was accessorized with a Miu Miu clutch and sequin, pink & white Mary Jane's. The hair should have been in an up-do and even though I am not crazy about the look, it works for her.

Idris Elba walked away a winner for 'Supporting Actor' in 'Beasts of no Nation'. If you haven't seen that movie, it's a must see. This is not his best look but he wore a simple two-piece grey plaid suit style with a white shirt, a black tie, tan buckle strap shoes and a brown plaid ivy cap.

Rooney Mara went for a BOSS black and white pleated tweed dress with sheer panels which she styled with black BRIAN ATWOOD strappy sandals. Light make-up and a high bun with side swept bangs completed her look. I like the dress but the styling is a snooze.

Dree Hemingway stood out in a CHLOE SPRING 2016 ruffled silk rainbow halter pleated gown with a colorful pastel tassel tie neck. I like the easy, breezy feel of this boho inspired gown which worked for the occasion.

Abraham Atta who won 'Best Male Lead' for 'Beasts of no Nation' looked great in a blue colored two-piece suit styled with a white shirt and a matching blue polka dot bow.

Kate McKinnon was one of the host and she wore a simple black two-piece suit with a black came underneath and black pumps. Nothing exciting here.

  1. Rami Malek Wow - smooth rich color, on-trend slim fit and proportions, and perfect brown shoes. It's a win, hands down.

Rachel McAdams's ensemble stood out but I agree her bridal satin pumps were a let down.
    Rooney's hair looks weird,
JJL needs to ditch the pedestrian bag and Julianne Moore-esque chunky black sandals.
Zoe Kazan looks bad with that hair and Mary Janes.
Glad Idris won, although not fashion-wise - his plain and wrinkly grey suit is uninspiring, and the fit of the pants and his questionable styling leave a lot to be desired.

    1. I see one more row has been added. Absolutely loved Dree Hemingway - the refreshing spring-y colours and the flow and flair perfectly in tune with the beachy event - lovely, different, beautiful, appropriate, she hit the nail on the head with this gown for the occasion.
Abraham Atta did well in his light blue suit.
