2016 MET Gala Wrap-up

So the 2016 MET Gala, Manus X Machina-Fashion in an Age of Technology took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC on Monday(May 2nd). To see all of the red carpet looks, click HERE and continue below for the wrap-up.

Emma Roberts wore a purple, lavender, white & silver beaded TORY BURCH halter pleated dress which she paired with a black clutch. Beauty wise she went with a braided up-do and a purple, shimmery eyes.

Nicki Minaj served up an overdose of cleavage wearing a custom black MOSCHINO BY JEREMY SCOTT sheer beaded buckle dress. I like Nicki but this has a bad fit.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was a regal beauty wearing a ivory RALPH LAUREN one-shoulder side split asymmetrical evening dress adorned with a metal piece on the shoulder. A side parted slick bun and silver metallic clutch topped off her look.

Kate Mara wore a custom PACO RABANNE see-through mixed media mini dress styled with a black clutch and ankle strap sandals.

Karolina Kurkova wore a custom MARCHESA cognitive dress created in partnership with IBM. Her tulle dress was adorned with white delicate florals and lights that came alive through thanks to tweets.  The marriage with Karolina & Marchesa is always perfection.

Naomi Campbell wore a custom ROBERTO CAVALLI dress which featured a cut-out crop top and high waisted train skirt in black silk lace and allover embroidered with micro-beads & crystals.

Dakota Johnson wore a black GUCCI silk pleated gown with multicolored lace and crystal star details. She dressed up her winning look with NORMAN SILVERMAN diamonds.

Florence Welch also wore a custom GUCCI look. Her iridescent silver gown featured sequin cherry blossom branches and a Renaissance inspired neckline with crystals and pearls in a trompe l’oeil necklace with bow detail. I wish her hair was completely off-the-shoulder but she still looked great.

Sienna Miller shimmer in a custom GUCCI look as well. Her strapless rose gold sequin gown which featured embroidered crystal stones and a bow detail bodice.

Karlie Kloss looked divine in a sultry custom white cut-out BRANDON MAXWELL halter belted dress. This dress fit her perfectly and it doesn't come off as if she is trying too hard. Her LISA PERRY led studded clutch also added to the theme of the gala.

Alexa Chung sparkled nicely in a THAKOON twice-piece suit which she styled with ANITA KO jewelry and black ankle strap sandals.

Kendall Jenner was suppose to wear Balmain like her family but instead she opted for a custom ATELIER VERSACE SPRING 2016 dress. I usually don't like any of her look but this cut-out halter dress looked great on her.

Margot Robbie wore a white strapless CALVIN KLEIN silk dress with razor sharp cut-outs and side slits. The dress is a tad long but she still looks beautiful. Incorporation the theme, she accessorized with TIFFANY & CO jewelry.

Willow Smith is the new face of CHANEL so it is no surprise to see her wearing the brand. Her ensemble featured a printed satin panel coat with the matching strapless roll leg jumpsuit styled with LOUBOUTIN pumps.

Jaden Smith posed with his sister wearing a LOUIS VUITTON styled with black shiny boots with a silver metallic toe cap.

Ellie Bamber wore a GILES SPRING 2016 strapless champagne floral embroidered dress with fringe details. Ellie's dress is a little longer on her than on the runway but she looks great.

Irina Shayk wore a GIVENCHY FALL 2015 COUTURE light blue star embroidered see-through lace dress with beaded dress with a corset top and split detail.

Bella Hadid wore a GIVENCHY SPRING 2016 black gown with a ruffled tiered skirt. I was hoping to see this on the carpet but I wish it wasn't Bella. Not that I dislike like her or that she looks bad, I was just hoping it made it's debut differently.

Sarah Jessica Parker wore a custom MONSE ensemble which was inspired by the hit play 'Hamilton'. Many people didn't get or like her look but as she put it, it was more about capturing the technology between hand and the machine. Her look was different and I liked it. FRED LEIGHTON jewelry and her embellished SJP pumps completed her look.

La La Anthony wore a NICHOLAS JEBRAN black & burgundy heavily beaded cut-out cape dress. Maybe it is the way she is posing but the dress doesn't look flattering in the bust but overall I liked the fit of the dress on her.

Uma Thurman wore a ivory TOMMY HILFIGER slit detail dress with a square neckline and a train detail. Adding a interesting detail to her look, she accessorized with a Vintage 1948 CARTIER Bird of Paradise brooch set with 92-carats of platinum diamonds.

Gigi Hadid wore a TOMMY HILFIGER as well. Her gunmetal sheer silk-chiffon dress was layered with a metal bodysuit underneath. Her dress was on tune for the occasion but I feel like I have seen her in something similar before.

Amber Heard is wearing a custom RALPH LAUREN silk-charmeuse evening crossover dress with a split detail. She looked but I am not feeling the high hair. Also she is wearing matching metallic pumps which I don't think works with this dress. A stripe sandal would have been ideal.

Amy Schumer was head to toe in red ALEXANDER WANG which featured a custom off-the-shoulder gown with barbell-piercing & bike chain straps and a center front split, the 'Roxy' studded mini-bucket bag & Antonia studded sandals. Love the color and while this is not a bad look, I can't get on board with the hairstyle.

Dakota Fanning wore a black NINA RICCI FALL 2016 lace and sequin floor length dress. Dakota is never one to do anything make-up or hair wise, but for the gala metallic smokey eye and a subtle lip. However I wish she did something interesting to the hair to compliment her look.

Lorde wore a VALENTINO FALL 2016 pastel tulle gown. She changed the top of her gown which was simply sheer on the runway. Looking at all of her pics, she looked very uncomfortable.

Chloe Moretz wore a custom COACH shimmery printed metallic and sheer black pleated deep v-neck dress which revealed her black briefs underneath. Yes we have seen similar designs like this on the carpet but this is something different for Chloe. However this dress is too long.

Elle Fanning wore a custom THAKOON ivory Duchess satin halter slip gown. I can't say that I love this because it feels prom like. TIFFANY & CO jewelry and a high ponytail topped off her look.

Zoe Kravitz dipped into the archives wearing a VALENTINO FALL 2009 COUTURE black lace panel mask and a black mini dress with nude straps & a dramatic bow detail in the back. For me, the look is overkill, between the mask, back detail and shoes, this look needed to be edited.

Lady Gaga wore a custom ATELIER VERSACE embellished cut-out bodysuit and crop jacket. Her look was styled with black fishnet stocking and 10-inch platform boots. Is is right for a gala, probably not but this is classic Gaga which we have seen on her so many times so it is not shocking.

Madonna wore a custom GIVENCHY COUTURE black lace ensemble and black thigh-high boots. It may not be gala approved, but just like Gaga, this is classic Madonna.

Mindy Kaling wore a strapless TORY BURCH white metallic iridescent dress which I thought looked great on her. A white metallic embellished clutch, smoke eyes and off-the-shoulder tresses finished up her look.

Freida Pinto also wore a TORY BURCH dress. Her white jewelry embellished dress which match Mindy's clutch(see above), featured a ruffed cape detail in the back. Deborah Pagani jewelry, an Audemar Piguet watch, a pulled back bun and a pink lip topped off her look.

Emma Watson wore a custom CALVIN KLEIN COLLECTION ensemble in collaboration with Eco-age and made from sustainable cotton, satin, and taffeta woven from recycled plastic yarn. While this is a look that usually works for her, the pants are too long.

Zoe Saldana & Claire Danes was my favorites. Who was your best/worst dressed?

  1. I agree that Zoe Saldana and Claire Danes won the night - both were gala-worthy, standout and dramatic.
Models looking great here - Rosie is a vision of perfection (but lacking the event-appropriate drama), Karolina looks lovely, and Karlie Kloss has what it takes to sell that daring cut-out gown.
Some worst dressed - Madonna, Nicki, Katy Perry, pantless Gaga (it's a red carpet, not performance)... some others.

  2. You wish it wasn't Bella who wore that dress? It sounds like you got a problem Bella, not the way the dress looked on her.... and Bella looked great in that dress btw....
