Mary J. Blige in La Perla Couture at the 2017 MET Gala

Taking a break from promoting her new album, Mary J. Blige hit the carpet at the Rei Kawakubo Comme des Garcons-Art of the In-Between 2017 MET Costume Institute Gala this evening(May 1st) at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art in New York.

Working her left leg, she wore a custom LA PERLA COUTURE corseted column gown in stretch tulle, latex lace, and silk cady which perfectly links to the brand's lingerie heritage.

Beauty wise, she rocked a short, side parted edgy cut and smokey eyes offset with a nude lip. A pop of color cam via her blue clutch which topped off her look along with LORRAINE SCHWARTZ jewelry and black sandals.

Here a little back story on MJB's dress: Inspired by Rei Kawakubo’s concept of ‘un-fabric,’ Creative Director Julia Haart created hand-sculpted latex lace as the principal feature for Blige’s provocative column gown. Starting with a corset that features a built-in La Perla bra, the black stretch tulle is adorned with scalloped latex lace and hand-placed boning detail.
