Janelle Monae in Jenny Packham at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards

Thanks to her role in 'Hidden Figures', we are going to see a lot of Janelle Monae this awards season. Yesterday evening(January 2nd) she hit the red carpet at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film awards gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, CA. 

Sticking with her signature hues, Janelle wore a JENNY PACKHAM PRE-FALL 2017 ivory organza cage halter gown with black & gold pipping and a crisscross strappy back. On the runway, Janelle's gown featured sheer nude panels but she opted for black which provided more coverage. 

I actually prefer the gown with the sheer nude panels but I also think the black works. However I find the gown to be too long on Janelle but she owns it as always and that doesn't overshadow how beautiful she looks. Loving her hair & make-up which topped off her look along with a JIMMY CHOO clutch and BRIAN ATWOOD heels. Which version of the gown do you prefer, Janelle's or the runway?

Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards

We saw a lot of Nicole Kidman on the carpet last year and whether her look was a hit or miss, she made some standout choices. Before she picked up her 'International Star' award, she posed on the red carpet at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film awards gala yesterday evening(January 2nd) at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, CA. 

For the occasion, she wore a CHRISTIAN DIOR SPRING 2017 nude organza printed beaded gown. On the runway, Nicole's gown was unlined & shown with shorts for coverage but the actress added nude underlining for coverage. 

To avoid a total wash out, a colored lip was added to her beauty look along with a colored stone necklace. For me, even with the colored lip, I still don't like the color of this dress on her, nor the curls or the pointy toe pumps. FRED LEIGHTON jewelry and a OMEGA watch finished up her look. Are you sold on Nicole's look?

Kirsten Dunst wore a custom RALPH & RUSSO COUTURE three-quarter sleeve silver beaded gown with a v-neckline which she accessorized with CHOPARD jewelry. My only quibble is that I wish she went with an elegant up-do but other than that, she looked beautiful. 

Octavia Spencer ditched Tadashi Shoji for a ELIZA mock two-piece gown which featured a white cuff sleeve button down shirt and a tie waist rose embroidered ball gown skirt. Love this classic look on her even thought I find the top to be too tight.

Natalie Portman in Christian Dior at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards

Natalie Portman won the 'Desert Palm Achievement' award at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards Gala yesterday evening(January 2nd) at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, CA. 

She hit the red carpet in CHRISTIAN DIOR of course. Her SPRING 2017 black halter floor length dress was layered with a black sheer long sleeve top. While I do like the dress like presented on the runway, the addition of the sheer top worked in her favor.

However her look still comes off as slightly boring. Maybe a colored lip or a statement piece could have enhanced it because I don't think her TIFFANY & CO earrings which are pretty, was enough. What do you think of Natalie's look?

Ruth Negga in Valentino at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards

Before she won her 'Rising Star' award, Ruth Negga posed on the red carpet at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film awards gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center yesterday evening(January 2nd) in Palm Springs, California.

Turning to one of her go to brands, she wore a VALENTINO SPRING 2017 sheer organza printed beaded v-neck gown. Instead of wearing nude briefs like presented on the runway, she opted for blue shorts for coverage. 

Beauty wise, she kept it simple with her signature short natural curls and a red lip. Ruth is beautiful but I can't say that I am wowed by this because we saw this look a lot last year. Also It appears that she had the plunging neckline shorten which made the waist higher and that doesn't work for me.  A LUCIFER FOR GEMFIELDS ring finished up her look. Aldis Hodge who won an ensemble cast award for 'Hidden Figures', kept it simple in a black satin lapel two-piece suit styled simply with a black satin tie, a white button down shirt and black dress shoes. 

Joel Edgerton stood out in a RALPH LAUREN two-piece tuxedo which featured a ivory jacket, a black bow tie, a white shirt with contrasting black buttons, black trousers and black shiny dress shoes by JIMMY CHOO. I like how dapper he looks even though I wished he shaved. MONTBLANC accessories finished up his look.

Mahershala Ali who won the Breakthrough Performance award, went for a classic black two-piece suit styled with a black tie, a white button down shirt and black shoes. He just looks simply handsome and that's all.

Amy Adams in Altuzarra at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards

Amy Adams stepped out yesterday evening(December 2nd) at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film awards gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, CA.

Wearing her signature silhouette, she wore the sleeveless ALTUZARRA PRE-FALL 2017 'Portia' beaded floral v-neck floor length gown with a side front split detail. In the look book, Amy's gown was shown with matching detachable sleeves which she left out.

I actually like the gown with the sleeves but I don't think Amy could have pulled it off. However the shape of the gown doesn't look great on her and I would have liked to see this belted for balance. Hair is the same as alaways but still beautiful. JIMMY CHOO heels and CARTIER jewelry finished up her look. Do you agree or does Amy's look work for you?

Following their appearances at the NY Film Critics Circle awards, Lily Gladstone, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Cara Jade Meyers and more attended the 35th Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards which was held at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Thursday(January 4th) in Palm Springs, California. 

Margot Robbie wore a BALMAIN SPRING 2024 pink & black dotted, rosette mini dress with the coordinating mules. There is no denying that this look is an ode to Barbie and she is making it work. However, an up-do would have been better.
