5th Wearable Art Gala

The 5th annual Wearable Art Gala honoring Angela Bassett and Mark Bradford took place at the Barker Hangar on Saturday(October 22nd) in Santa Monica, California.

Beyonce didn't walk the red carpet during the main event but she did snap a pic of her look on the carpet wearing a custom GUCCI strapless gown with satin opera gloves. I like the idea of this but I dislike the top of the gloves because they become too distracting. Credit: Blair Caldwell 

Jay-Z doesn't pop molly, he rocks TOM FORD(pun intended) and he did just that, wearing a black velvet, double-breasted tuxedo. Credit: Blair Caldwell

Tina Knowles-Lawson wore a ALEXANDER MCQUEEN FALL 2022 black cutout suit. The jacket is weirdly designed but it looks much better on the runway. However, I feel like the fit of the suit needed to be better, she could have left the necklace out and a sleek pump would have been a better shoe choice. Love the head styling. 

Issa Rae wore a BRONX & BANCO FALL 2022 colorful sequin & feather mini dress and this was a playful look that touched on the theme.

Michelle Williams looked pretty wearing a BADGLEY MISCHKA black off-the-shoulder ankle length dress. The sleeves and the pops of red elevated this look. 

Quinta Brunson wore a playful, IVAN YOUNG mini beaded, feather mini dress and she looked fantastic. Her 1920's inspired look definitely hit the theme. 

Marsai Martin didn't come to play as she hit the theme wearing a JULIAN MENDEZ COUTURE. However, I would remove the gloves.

Angela Bassett wore a GEORGES HOBEIKA FALL 2022 COUTURE beaded, feather dress and the coordinating cape added drama to the playful dress. I almost wish the dress was longer. 

Andra Day also wore a piece from the GEORGES HOBEIKA FALL 2022 COUTURE collection and she looked beautiful. 

Halle Bailey had been trying to step out of her style comfort zone by wearing sexier looks. She also wore a GEORGES HOBEIKA FALL 2022 COUTURE dress. I am not a fan of the design but I do think it would work better on someone who is taller. 

Cindy Bruna looked gorgeous wearing a JEAN LOUIS-SEBAJI FALL 2021 COUTURE white feather mini dress with a draped side panel. I am definitely missing that belt. 

Lori Harvey worked a custom IBRAHIMA GUEYE dress and I would swap out the pumps for an ankle strap sandal. But she is selling the look.

Jurnee Smollett looked gorgeous from head to toe, that's all. 

Dominique Fishback wore a vintage ROBERTO CAVALLI beaded, halter dress. I dislike the cutout detail and even though I am not 100% sold on the gloves, she definitely needed one here.

Melina Matsoukas wore a GUCCI dress which I really don't like but her beauty look is flawless. 

Chloe Bailey utilized the slit on her AJE RESORT 2023 fuchsia gown. Easily one of her best looks.
